The Importance of Consistency in Running

If you are into running to reach your fitness goals, one of the most important things that you need to remember would be consistency.
This is because even if you run a good distance at an increasing pace for three consecutive days but fail to do any running or any other form of exercise during the next three days, you are not doing a very effective workout.
By being consistent in your running, you would be able to achieve your weight loss or fitness goals in no time.
A good way to make sure that you would be running consistently would be to make a workout plan.
Your workout plan should detail which days of the week you would be running and where and for how long.
You can document the time that it takes you to run a certain distance and check your progress regularly as you increase your pace.
Through having a plan, you would be more organized and consistent with your running workouts.
To help you in being consistent, it would be good to fit in some warm-up exercises before you do your runs.
Stretching and warming up would prepare your body for the workout that you would be having, preventing body aches and pains later which could discourage you from working out again.
If you have been sedentary or if you have not been doing much exercise in the past few months or years, do not just get into running right away.
Doing so could just strain or injure your muscles due to the overexertion.
Instead, start by walking first.
Walk for about half an hour every day for a week or more and then gradually move to jogging and then to running.
Remember that the progress should be done gradually so that injuries and overexertion would be avoided.
It is also advisable to set a workout schedule that you can actually stick to.
Think of the time of the day when you are able to do a good amount of running.
For some individuals, this time could be in the morning, before they head off to work; and for some, this time could be in the evening.
Because running can release mood-enhancing endorphins, running in the morning could be good to give you the uplifting and the energy that you need to start off your day.
However, running in the evening could be relaxing to help you unwind from the stresses of the day.
Think of when would be the best time for you, depending on your daily routine and do your best to stick to it.
Aside from running regularly, consistency in running also pertains to the progress you make.
You can start at a slow pace, gradually increasing it as your physical abilities are enhanced.
Remember that in order to have an effective workout through running, changing the intensity of your runs are essential.
It would be pointless to be running at the same speed even when the level of your physical capabilities has clearly increased.
